Grab the handle on the pump and turn it clockwise to ensure that the pump is fully engaged in the sprayer. Do not overtighten.

Turn the handle on the pump about one-quarter turn counterclockwise to release, or unlock, the handle from the pump. Depending on the sprayer, you might have to push down slightly to unlock the handle.

Pull the pump handle straight up until it stops.

Push the pump handle straight down. This forces air into the sprayer to pressurize the contents.

Pump the handle in the same manner as Steps 3 and 4 until you feel firm resistance when pushing down. You might need to pump anywhere from 10 to 30 times to pressurize it, depending on the sprayer and the amount of liquid it contains. Some sprayers have a relief valve. If you hear it hissing, stop pumping.

Push the handle back down firmly onto the top of the pump.

Turn the handle about one-quarter turn clockwise to lock it back into the top of the pump. When the handle is properly locked back into the pump, you should not be able to pull up on it.

Repeat the pumping process as necessary while spraying the solution. As you use more of the product, the tank pressure decreases, and you will notice the flow decreasing. Pump it as needed to maintain the pressure.
